“He just killed that boy. He just killed him in front of my house.” These are the words of a resident of the London suburb of Hainault. He or she saw how a 36-year-old man created pure chaos in the suburb on Tuesday morning. The 36-year-old man drove a van into a house and then attacked several bystanders with a sword. Five people were taken to hospital, including two police officers. A 14-year-old boy died in hospital from his injuries.

“We were very scared and tried to hide and not be seen through the window because he was right next to our house. He could have seen us if he looked up,” says a local resident BBC. “Something like that never happens here,” she says.

Eyewitness James Fernando (39), who lives in the street, tells BBC that the suspect approached his female neighbor and asked her to “take the phone from him to give his location to whoever was on the phone.” The woman realized something strange was happening and tried to run away. The man then allegedly took “a samurai sword from the back of his pants”. The woman then allegedly shouted to warn a boy who was on his way to school, Fernando said. “The attacker beat the boy and then continued to roam the streets with the sword in his hand looking for victims.”

“Do you believe in God?”

David Maguire was on his way to the station when he was confronted by an injured person with bloody hands. “With everyone rushing at you, you don’t know who you can trust in a situation like that. You don’t know who has the knife and who doesn’t,” he says. “That (the attacker, ed.) turned out to be a person 50 meters from where I was… Two minutes earlier it could have been me.”

Another resident who lives near the station tells DailyMail how he woke up at 7 o’clock due to the loud shouting. “There was a man covered in blood outside, near the station and in front of my house. Police tried to calm the man who carried out the stabbing. But he went towards the station. He kept shouting.” Someone else tells how at least one person lay in a pool of blood. “It was horrible. There were terrible screams, I woke up with piercing screams, people said it was with a machete.” (Read more below the photo)

According to several eyewitnesses, the man said, “Do you believe in God?” called the police. “Is there anyone here who believes in God?” he is also said to have shouted while standing next to an injured person.

Student Evelina Deliu (20) tells TheSun how she saw the suspect resisting arrest. “I woke up to a loud noise outside my bedroom window. I saw a man crawling on the ground near the banana tree in the neighbor’s yard. There were police all around him. He struggled with them. The police shouted ‘Duck, duck!’ It took six or seven people to get him down. There was a lady (police officer) with them. They tried to tie him up and handcuff him. But he moved his legs and tried to get out. The police shouted ‘don’t resist, don’t resist!’. They had to carry him to the car because he was tied up. Then the police started picking things up and putting them in evidence bags. There wasn’t much emotion on his face. I think he tried to run away but got stuck here.”

The man was eventually overpowered after officers gave him an electric shock with their electroshock weapon. He is being treated in hospital, but has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
