According to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, his country is preparing for war. He said this during a working visit to the Belarusian city of Grodno.

According to the Belarusian state news agency BelTA, Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus itself does not threaten anyone and is not eager to fight. “But if you want peace, you have to prepare for war,” he said. “I didn’t come up with that myself, but it is very correct.”

Lukashenko further said that Belarus is “training the necessary units” and various types of equipment and weapons are being supplied to the troops.

Lukashenko also allowed Russian troops to launch an attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev from his territory during the invasion on February 24, 2022. He said he was prepared to do that again if there was a new Russian offensive in Ukraine.

He also threatened war if Ukraine attacked Belarus. However, the Ukrainian military has repeatedly said it has no intention of attacking Belarus. The border with Belarus was strengthened.
