In an interview with Dag Allemaal he says that he saw how the residents cheered up when one of their children came to visit them. He also explains why he doesn’t have children of his own. “Suddenly the thought can hit me: ‘Shit, one day I won’t be here anymore.’ I have a great life, I don’t want to lose it. That fear can paralyze me so much. As a little boy I expressed the wish to know the date of my death. That’s one of the reasons why I prefer to remain childless. I don’t have to pass on such a head full of worries. Thanks to my psychologist, I struggle less with this fixation on death these days.”

In the conversation, Bockie talks about his grandmother (his mother’s mother): “Just like me, she lives for two. My grandmother is a brave eighty-year-old who still lives at home. What characterizes her, for example: an easy conversation and a great love for her daily gin.” (Pom)
