Netflix increases subscription prices in the Netherlands

--

Netflix is increasing subscription prices in the Netherlands for the first time since 2021. As a result, viewers of the streaming service spend up to a few euros more per month. Previously, prices at rivals such as Amazon Prime and Disney+ also increased.

A basic Netflix subscription, which allows users to watch films and series on one screen at the same time, will become 1 euro more expensive and will now cost 8.99 euros per month.

Anyone who wants to be able to watch on two screens at the same time will now pay 13.99 euros monthly, instead of 11.99 euros. The most expensive subscription – up to four screens at the same time – has the largest price increase, by 3 euros to 18.99 euros per month.

Streaming services increase subscription prices in the Netherlands

At Amazon Prime, the subscription price already increased from 2.99 euros to 4.99 euros per month in October last year. Disney+ increased the price of a subscription to 10.99 euros per month, instead of 9.99 euros.

Apple TV+ then also increased its prices by no less than 3 euros per month. A monthly subscription now costs 9.99 euros.

The Dutch streaming service Videoland did not lag behind and last year also increased the prices of its Plus and Premium subscriptions by 1 euro per month. The Plus subscription went from 8.99 euros to 9.99 euros and the Premium subscription from 10.99 euros to 11.99 euros. The price of the Basic subscription remained unchanged at 4.99 euros per month.

With the price increases, the streaming services hope to achieve more turnover and improve the profit margin, which, according to the companies behind the services, is mainly about margins.

A price increase is also coming for HBO Max. The service announced earlier this week that the price for a standard subscription will be increased from 7.99 euros per month to 9.99 euros per month from June. There will also be a cheaper subscription with advertising and a more expensive premium subscription.
