The federal public prosecutor’s office in our country is taking over the investigation into the death of Laura Trappeniers (66) and disappearance of Marc Olbrechts (71) on the island of Tenerife. That reports RTL info.

Two weeks ago, Laura Trappeniers (66) and Marc Olbrechts (71) were reported missing in Tenerife. A week ago her body was recovered from the ocean – she initially appeared to have been badly mutilated – and nothing is yet known about her husband’s whereabouts. The Spanish police conducted the investigation until now.

This is now changing, the federal public prosecutor’s office reports RTL info. “From the moment it became clear that it was indeed a violent death, Article 12 was triggered and the case was taken over by the federal public prosecutor’s office with all the resources at its disposal, including excellent international connections,” said Eric Van Duyse , spokesperson for the federal public prosecutor’s office.

The fact that the federal public prosecutor’s office is now taking charge means that it can monitor the ongoing investigation in consultation with the Spanish authorities. But also that it can now decide to send people to the scene itself or propose investigations. According to Van Duyse, this will be enthusiastically welcomed by the family of Olbrechts and Trappeniers. “It offers them certainty now that there will be an intermediary in Belgium and the matter will be looked at from our country,” he says.
