1/3 Three celebrations: these triplets are one year old today

Today is a triple celebration in Halsteren, because Arie and Mandy Pronk’s triplets turned one year old on Thursday. Time to drop by with a birthday cake for the young family.

It was a bit of a shock when the parents heard last year that they were having not one, not two, but three more children: “We were already hoping for more than one, but we never expected three!”, says mother Mandy. Their sons Manoah and Tobias and daughter Lydia will be one year old on Thursday and the family is doing well: “They are growing well and are so happy! This is really three times as much happiness.”

“There have been days when we had to change thirty diapers in one day!”

Although the family is very happy with the little ones, it was of course also quite a challenge to raise three babies at the same time: “In the beginning I thought: they will probably learn to wait for each other, but that was not possible! Everything is of course times three, including the diapers. There have been days when we had to change thirty diapers in one day!”, Mandy laughs.

The broken nights were also tough for the parents in the beginning: “If one decided to finally get a good night’s sleep, there was always another who didn’t. But luckily things are going much better now.”

The triplets are cared for not only by their parents, but also by big brother Ezra. Father Arie proudly explains how his eldest son reacts to the triplets: “It is really wonderful to see how Ezra deals with them as a big brother. He is very caring, helps with making the bottles, wants to get them out of bed and plays continuously with them. I think that’s really great to see.”

Big brother Ezra enjoys a birthday cake with his parents. Because Manoah, Tobias and Lydia are still a little too young for cake, they get a tasty fruit snack from their big brother. Taking turns, everyone gets a snack. And the triplets are indeed not waiting for each other, because after every bite there is a sound that asks for more. What about crying, do toddlers also do that in unison? Fortunately, according to the mother, that isn’t too bad: “They can cry deafeningly while the others continue to sleep!”

After the birthday snack, the triplets roll around the living room with big beaming eyes and giggling. Judging by their cheerful faces, they seem to realize that today is their party.
