Oliver Naesen rode his first race since the Amstel Gold Race with Eschborn-Frankfurt. He did not finish the race, but that is not surprising after what he experienced during the night.

Naesen did not reach the finish line in Frankfurt last Wednesday. On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, after midnight, he was startled when about 30 kilograms of plaster came down from the ceiling.

“I was scared to death,” Naesen adds The newspapaer. A piece of the plaster ended up on Naesen’s ankle, which was slightly abraded and swollen. All in all, the damage was not too bad.

Naesen will be extra careful in the future

Unlike his roommate Stan Dewulf, Naesen had not pushed his bed back, otherwise the adhesive might have ended up on his head. “Fortunately not, because there were quite sharp edges.”

Naesen and Dewulf were given another room, but Naesen was not surprised that the ceiling had fallen. During his stretching exercises on his bed, Naesen had already noticed how bad the adhesive was.

In the future, Naesen will look at the ceiling more when he sleeps in a hotel with the team. “As a rider you encounter all kinds of things, but this was not everyday,” he concluded.
