A woman from Scarborough, England went to the hospital for a scan, but experienced something very bizarre: according to the hospital’s computer system, she had already been dead for four months.

“Oh, you’re dead,” was the first thing Susan Johnson heard at Bridlington hospital. “Excuse me?” she responded. The hospital employee provided no further explanation. The 62-year-old received the scan she came for and went home confused and, according to her, “shaking like a leaf”. It turned out to be an error in the computer system. The mistake briefly halted Johnson’s benefits to care for her disabled husband.

Furious, Johnson called her benefits agency. “According to the computer, you are no longer alive,” said the person on the other end of the line. “I’m still alive, I’m talking to you,” she replied. “It was so difficult. I couldn’t talk to anyone about it,” she told the BBC.

Immediately fired

Johnson is now receiving her benefits again. It is not yet clear who declared her dead. She hopes the culprit will be found soon. “I want to know who did this and why. That person should not be working where he works.”
