Kessel-Lo

The suspect of the triple murder in Kessel-Lo Michaël D. (38) will remain in jail for two months longer. The council chamber decided this on Tuesday. D. has now been in prison for five months.

It has now been almost two years since a mother, her son and his friend were killed in Kessel-Lo. On June 11, 2022, the police found the lifeless bodies of Anita (57), her son Wesley (23) and housemate Rikki (47) in a modest home in Zavelstraat. The three had been stabbed to death. With the last of his strength, Rikki was able to call the emergency services. When they arrived, Rikki had also died. There was no trace of the perpetrator.

Despite the earlier arrest of a neighbor who lived a hundred meters away, the case remained unsolved. The boy was released due to lack of evidence. In mid-November last year, Michaël D. was arrested and arrested for murder. The man has now been in jail for five months and the council chamber decided on Tuesday to extend that detention by two months.

Drug environment

Suspect Michaël D. is said to have been friends with Rikki for twenty years. They were good mates. They had a ‘drug business’ and also used drugs together, just like Wesley. Rikki kept track of the stock. At the end of February this year, D. was sentenced to thirty months in prison and a fine of 12,000 euros. He threw a mobile phone over the wall of the Leuven auxiliary prison and a bag of fifty grams of heroin stuck to it.

The motive for the murder is not clear, but it is not inconceivable that everything can be traced back to a conflict between the two. The innocent mother Anita and her son were taken away. Initially, the suspect denied any involvement in the case. It is not clear whether this is still the case. D.’s lawyer could not be reached for comment.
