When Eden was eleven, she was diagnosed with meningitis, which returned twice. Or that changed her life? “No, I think: live your life the way you want because it could easily be the last day. I was so young at the time that I was completely unaware of it. You don’t realize that you might die,” she says.

This causes Eden to end up in a coma. “I thought everyone was very crazy. I saw people’s hair growing as I looked at them. I was completely confused. Somehow you know it, but you still don’t really know how everything works,” she says about the period after she woke up from a coma.

Afraid of death

In January 2024, her husband Mark Laurenz was admitted to hospital. “That wasn’t cool. I was really scared,” she says. “They said they didn’t know if he was going to make it. Once he was taken away, I really collapsed.”

Does these events make her afraid of death? “I am not afraid of death for what is to come. No one has come back, so it will be quite pleasant,” says Eden. So no, I’m not afraid of death. But because I have a child and what I leave behind.”
