A serious traffic accident took place in the Natiënlaan towards Maldegem on Saturday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. At the intersection with the Landsdijk in Lapbreeke, a motorcycle crashed into the side of a passenger car. The blow was particularly heavy and the motorcyclist died on the spot from his injuries. The public prosecutor arrived on the scene to determine the cause of the accident.

Around 4:15 p.m., a dark Kia passenger car followed the Landsdijk in Lapbreeke. When the car wanted to cross the Natiënlaan from the Landsdijk, it collided with a motorcyclist who was following the Natiënlaan. The blow was particularly severe and the motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man from Maldegem, died on the spot from his injuries.

The driver of the passenger car, a 28-year-old man from Knokke-Heist, was uninjured. He gave a negative alcohol and drug test. The public prosecutor’s office sent a traffic expert to the scene to investigate the accident. According to the expert’s initial findings, the passenger car should have given way to the motorcyclist. The precise circumstances are still being investigated further.
