In the past, RSC Anderlecht employed a very good scout and technical advisor in Peter Ressel. He almost guided two absolute top strikers from the Netherlands to the people of Brussels. He came up with some amazing stories.

Van Nistelrooy

At the end of the 1990s, Peter Ressel had very good contact with the chairman of SC Heerenveen. The Purple & White did everything they could to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy to Anderlecht. The club was prepared to pay 5 million euros, a lot of money at the time. Heerenveen asked for 7.5 million euros and RSCA thought that was too much. PSV paid for it and the rest is history.

In that summer, Roy Makaay, then active for Tenerife, was also a top candidate. However, that deal also fell through. He subsequently became a world-class striker at Bayern Munich, among others. Ressel told in Café Constant also that Anderlecht subsequently found an agreement with the Greek striker Demis Nikolaidis. The AEK Athens attacker agreed with RSCA and Anderlecht went to Athens with a delegation to complete the transfer.

Radzinski

The AEK fans were furious and even waited for the Anderlecht board. The police escorted them to another destination. The AEK board received death threats and the striker therefore stayed with AEK. A few years later he moved to Atlético Madrid on a free transfer. He stopped there at the age of 31 after suffering an injury.

Ultimately, Michel Verschueren brought in Thomasz Radzinski that summer. The last option on the list of 7 strikers. Mister Michel saw it well, because Radzinski’s passage became a huge success at Anderlecht.
