KAA Gent is doing a great job in the battle for a European ticket, while STVV will regret the missed penalty for a while

--

KAA Gent won 0-1 on the field against STVV on Tuesday evening. Efficiency made the big difference.

STVV took on KAA Gent at home on Tuesday evening. Hein Vanhaezebrouck put 16-year-old Mokio in the starting line-up. Franck Surdez also made his starting debut. At STVV Ito was unsure, but he was able to start.

The first fifteen minutes belonged entirely to the home team. STVV created chance after chance and could and perhaps should have taken the lead quickly.

After about ten minutes of play, STVV received a penalty. About Koita, however, kicked Ghent goalkeeper Davy Roef. On the rebound, Steuckers shot over goal.

Even after the penalty, STVV remained the better team. But the Buffaloes also started to spill their chances after a while.

Ghent came more and more into the match, which made for a fun first half. After 30 minutes of play it was a miracle that the score was still 0-0. Ultimately, Tissouadli, assisted by Surdez, was able to give KAA Gent the lead before half time.

Ghent started the second half well, but it was STVV that immediately had two giant chances. The ball just really didn’t want to go in.

Shortly before the hour mark, Ghent did encounter a problem. Mokio, who started in the starting line-up for the first time, joined us. He was later substituted injured.

In the end, STVV was the better team, considering the entire match. They had a number of chances, but a goal was really not possible today.

In the end, Stefan Mitrovic even made it 0-2, a few minutes before the end. He headed in a corner kick.

With this victory, KAA Gent remains comfortable leader in the Europe Play-offs with 36 points. The Buffaloes thus take a nine-point lead over STVV, which has 27. The European dream seems to be over for the Truienaars in this way.
