Today the unofficial world championship for sprinters is on the program with the Scheldeprijs 2024! Between the hard work of, among others, Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Tour of Flanders and the Brabantse Pijl, the fast men also get their chance. Last year Jasper Philipsen won the one-day classic.

Because the Flame of Ham also managed to win the 2021 edition, he can go for his hat trick this year. To achieve this, the Belgian from Alpecin-Deceuninck must be the fastest over a course of more than 200 kilometers between Terneuzen and Schoten. A local lap of 16.9 kilometers is completed four times around Schoten. In this circuit there is always a cobblestone passage of 1,700 meters long.

Without climbs on the course, it seems like waiting for a sprint. Although the bad weather today could certainly play a role. It rains from start to finish and a southwest wind blows at force five. In 2022, the wind provided a fan spectacle, Alexander Kristoff managed to solo to victory in the final after an attack from the first group.

The women are also taking action today. Lorena Wiebes is the big favorite over the completely flat 135 kilometer course. Unlike the men’s event, both the start and finish are in Schoten, Belgium.

Men:
Start: 13.00
Finish: between 5:15 PM and 5:40 PM
Distance: 205.3 kilometers

Women:
Start: 11:40 am
Finish: between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM
Distance: 132 kilometers
