The founder of World Central Kitchen (WCK), a US-based aid organization, has confirmed the deaths of “several” staff members in an Israel air attack in Gaza.

Jose Andres said on social media that he was “heartbroken and grieving for the families and friends of our whole WCK family”.

The aid organization had “lost several of our sisters and brothers in an [Israeli] air strike in Gaza,” Andres said, adding that they had worked alongside the slain aid workers in Ukraine, Turkey, Morocco, the Bahamas and Indonesia.

“The Israeli government needs to stop this indiscriminate killing. It needs to stop restricting humanitarian aid, stop killing civilians and aid workers, and stop using food as a weapon,” he said.

“No more innocent lives lost,” he added.
