AMD may be planning to change its CPU naming convention to ‘Ryzen AI’ with the release of its next-generation ‘Strix Point’ laptop processors. This is evident from information from ASUS. The manufacturer’s website mentions laptops with a ‘Ryzen AI 9 HX’ CPU.

The ASUS website lists the specs of three Vivobook laptops, all of which feature an ‘AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 170’ processor, https://twitter.com/harukaze5719/status/1787781189249692025/history. The chip contains twelve cores, possibly based on the Zen 5 architecture, in addition to 36MB-L3 cache and an improved Ryzen AI engine for performing AI computing tasks.

It appears that AMD’s next generation of laptop processors will not be released in a Ryzen 8050 series. In this way, the manufacturer would make its naming scheme comparable to the new names of Intel’s processors. For example, the Ryzen AI 9 HX series could compete with Intel’s new Core 9 Ultra processors.

AMD has not yet confirmed the new naming of its Ryzen processors. It is therefore unknown whether AMD will actually implement this change, although the information does come from a well-known laptop manufacturer. Recently https://twitter.com/TechnicallyLog1/status/1787608085365723183 about a Lenovo laptop with an alleged Ryzen Pro 8050 processor. It is also unclear whether the potential rebrand will also apply to AMD’s desktop CPUs. Gigabyte recently confirmed the existence of Ryzen 9000 processors for desktops.
