Since 2022, Apple has not had a mini, but a Plus model in its iPhone range. But there have been reports for years that this model is not doing nearly as well as Apple would have hoped. There appear to be no changes in this area for this year, but according to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple will launch a new model in 2025: the iPhone 17 Slim. It’s a notable rumor, just like the other iPhone 17 rumors the analyst shares.

‘iPhone 17 Slim coming’

The information was shared by the analyst with 9to5Mac. However, the rumor didn’t come completely out of the blue. According to previous reports, the iPhone 17 Plus will have a smaller screen. The analyst now says that this model will therefore be called the iPhone 17 Slim, with a 6.6-inch display. This model will have an aluminum design, which he says is “more complex.” However, it is unclear what exactly he means by that. This device may be slightly smaller and flatter than the current Plus models and that is where the name “Slim” comes from.

In terms of specs, the analyst says that the iPhone 17 Slim (just like the regular iPhone 17) will have an A18 or A19 chip, with 8GB of RAM. That is an upgrade compared to the 6GB RAM that the standard models now have.

More iPhone 17 family rumors

The analyst shares even more information about the iPhone 17 series. He claims that not only the iPhone 17 Slim will have an aluminum casing, but also the regular iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. The latter is remarkable, since the Pro models since the iPhone 15 Pro have been made of titanium. According to the analyst, titanium is only reserved for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. And speaking of that model: it would also (the only one) have a smaller Dynamic Island, because new technology would be used for the proximity sensor. This can therefore be smaller, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island. It is not clear why this would not be the case with the regular iPhone 17 Pro.

He further adds that the iPhone 17 Pro models will have an A19 Pro chip, with 12GB of RAM. The Pro models currently have 8GB of RAM. Finally, he talks about a 24-megapixel front camera. This fits with an earlier claim from a (more reliable) analyst about the iPhone 17’s camera.

How reliable is this analyst?

The analyst therefore makes quite special claims, especially about the design and the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 17 series. The question remains to what extent this is correct. The analyst has a highly variable reputation. In the past he has made many strange and incorrect claims. For example, he said in 2022 that the iPhone 14 models would start with 64GB of storage, while the iPhone 13 series already had 128GB a year earlier. He also claimed in 2021 that Apple would announce the AirPods 3, new iPad mini, new entry-level iPad and a new Apple Pencil in the April event of that year. That turned out not to be the case. So take analyst Jeff Pu’s statements with a grain of salt.
