Cheap AirPods Lite expected: what is Apple planning?


Apple is reportedly launching a cheaper AirPods model this fall. What is known about these AirPods Lite so far?

Noted analyst Jeff Pu, who follows companies within Apple’s supply chain, expects the iPhone maker to launch the AirPods Lite later this year. Pu published a research note about it on Monday at the investment firm where he works, Haitong International Securities.

In that note, Pu reportedly said that Apple manufacturer Foxconn will significantly ramp up the assembly of AirPods at its factory in India during the last quarter of 2024. This increased production would mainly be aimed at the cheaper model of the AirPods. Pu added that the next generation of AirPods Max will also be released during the same quarter.

How much are they?

Pu doesn’t mention the potential price of the AirPods Lite. Ming-Chi Kuo, another well-known Apple analyst, already that Apple is working on a cheaper version of the AirPods. He that those earplugs will cost $99. Kuo also did not provide any technical details.

Two new AirPods models

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple will release two models of AirPods this year, the budget model and a more expensive version with features such as noise cancellation.

According to Gurman, Apple plans to withdraw both the second and third generation AirPods from the market once the two new models are released.
