New single Formal Speedwear – “Bunto”

Formal Speedwear is a band from Stoke-On-Trent, and yes, the group name is indeed spelled correctly. Beck Clewlow founded the band, but because he is alone, he asked Charlie Ball and Connor Wells to join him in the rehearsal room, the studio and the halls. In Stoke there are three options: work in the ceramics sector, be Robbie Williams or form a band. So starting a band seems like a very good choice to us!

“Bunto” is the new single that the band lets us hear after the EPs Dynamite and Push. We are quite curious and wondered what ‘Bunto’ actually means. Finished? ‘Bunto’ is a bitch in Spanish-speaking South America. In Japan it means ‘crossing by boat’. A ‘bunto’ can be a very close friend. A ‘bunto’ can be something small but very sturdy, like a baseball for example. And in Chaldean numerology, ‘bunto’ is the number 6. Here you go! For us, “Bunto” is mainly the song that Formal Speedwear released. The song seems to start with digital laughter in the background until the drums come in. The drums sound incredibly dry, and pay particular attention to the drum sticks that are hit together, masterfully. A bass line follows that would not be out of place in Steve Rubell’s Studio 54. The guitar coils around this rhythm section like a little snake the entire time. After two minutes the rhythm changes completely and the disco sound is exchanged for a rock sound. It sounds an awful lot like Talking Heads, and the band does it really well. The arrangements are flawlessly put together and “Bunto” is played by a trio that masters its instruments from A to Z. Really cool song!
