KRC Genk suffered a heavy blow against Cercle Brugge last weekend. The Limburgers lost 4-1.

KRC Genk was mentioned as a title candidate a few weeks ago, but the club now has to fight for fourth place, and that will not be easy either.

Racing Genk started the play-offs really well, but is now completely sagging again. Wouter Vrancken immediately came up with a new system that worked well. However, now there seems to be a lot wrong.

“KRC Genk’s free fall is quite inexplicable,” says Peter Vandenbempt at Sporza. “The away games in Bruges in particular were dramatic. Genk made childish mistakes, it was easily trumped and nothing remains of the conviction from the first games.”

Vandenbempt proposes that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes in Limburg. In addition to a new coach, he also believes that there should be a lot of new players.

“The volatility and mental fragility of this core is striking. Perhaps next summer the players’ core should be thoroughly swept through? A new trainer alone will not be enough.”
