It seems increasingly unlikely that Mark van Bommel will still be the coach of Royal Antwerp FC next season. The Dutch coach has been linked to many teams in recent weeks, although a return to the Netherlands seems to be the most logical option.

Van Bommel is currently focusing entirely on the cup final on May 9 against Union. But whether the Dutch trainer will still be seen at the Bosuil next season is another question. He is mentioned at Feyenoord, which has to look for a replacement for Arne Slot.

Possible candidates

Sports marketer Chris Woerts explains this at: Today Inside. “I had contact with Dennis te Kloese de (general director of Feyenoord, ed.) this morning,” said Woerts. “He keeps a completely straight face. He says: ‘We have already made a list and we are with a number of candidates have been worked on, but no one has been specifically approached yet’. So not Pusic, not Schreuder, no one.”

However, Feyenoord wants to appoint a new trainer before mid-May. Woerts says that Van Bommel is also mentioned at the Dutch club. “But I think Van Bommel is an exciting thought. I think he will go down well with the supporters, because when he played for PSV he was such an irritating guy. He was always on top of things. I think the Feyenoord supporters I really like that character of Van Bommel.”

First, Van Bommel and Antwerp will have to focus on next Sunday’s match against Club Brugge. ‘The Great Old’ has already given up the national title, but wants to be able to feel good about the cup final with Union.
