Thanks to a nice 16 out of 18, Club Brugge is suddenly competing for the national title again. After six matches in the play-offs, Blauw-Zwart conceded barely three goals. And while Nicky Hayen cannot call on Simon Mignolet, who will probably take his place between the posts again soon.

In the absence of the regular number one under the bar, his backup Nordin Jackers managed to distinguish himself. To such an extent that there is already plenty of speculation here and there about a permanent contract for the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently only rented from OH Leuven.

Ball in Jackers camp

Since that deal also contains a purchase option, the Bruges board no longer needs to sit around the table with their colleagues from Leuven to discuss a permanent switch. Although it seems logical to activate that clause after the season, it is not so obvious for the time being.

After all, the ball is in Jackers’ court. Only when he himself gives the green light to exercise his option would Club plan to take action. Perhaps Jackers prefers to take his chance elsewhere as number one, a status that will belong to Mignolet for a while in Jan Breydel.

Mignolet number 1

In the series Let Him Cook, in which Unibet always prepares a meal with a player from our competition, the final piece itself sheds light on his future plans. “When I came here I knew that it was not easy to play, with Simon in front of me. I have also learned a lot from him.”

“Simon is still one of the best goalkeepers in Belgium,” Jackers realizes. “I think it is a difficult question what I will do next season. It is too early to answer that. I like being here, but I am now focusing on the present,” he continues. So let’s wait and see what will happen.
