Thibaut Courtois (31) is part of Real Madrid’s match selection for the first time since August. The Belgian goalkeeper will travel to Munich for the Champions League semi-final against Bayern next Tuesday.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti had already indicated at his press conference last Thursday that Courtois was close to his return. “Thibaut will join the group next week. He is doing well and can play against Cadiz (on May 4, ed.)”, said the Italian trainer.
But now it appears that his return can be even faster. On Sunday, Thibaut Courtois was the big surprise on the player list that Real Madrid published for the first leg of the semi-final in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. Courtois’ name sits above those of the other two goalkeepers, Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga, on the list.

On August 10, Courtois tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. After a tough rehabilitation, he was surprisingly close to returning last month, until he suffered an injury to the meniscus of his other knee on March 19. For a while it seemed that his season was definitely over, but once again the Limburger returned faster than expected.
What about the European Championship?
Barring any surprises, the Red Devils will go to the European Championships in Germany without Courtois. At the end of last month, national coach Domenico Tedesco indicated that nothing had changed in the situation between him and the goalkeeper. Courtois had already indicated at the end of last year that he would skip the European Championship because he could never be one hundred percent. Now that he can play matches again, a possible comeback for Courtois at the Devils is once again a theme.
