WATCH – Japanese ski jumper flies 291 meters, but it is not a world record

--

Ski jumper Ryoyu Kobayashi performed a stunt in Iceland. The Japanese star only landed after 291 meters, no less than 37.5 meters further than the world record. Unfortunately for Kobayashi, his attempt doesn’t count.

Ryoyu Kobayashi and his team traveled to Iceland for the record attempt. There they spent more than two months building a fortress out of snow in the mountains.

It was located at an altitude of 1,115 meters and descended with a maximum slope of 36 degrees to 755 meters, good for a difference of 360 meters.

A dream for Kobayashi, who raced downhill at a maximum speed of 107 kilometers per hour and split the air in 8 seconds.

The 27-year-old Japanese only landed after 291 meters. With this he went no less than 37.5 meters further than the world record.

Unfortunately for Kobayashi, his attempt doesn’t count. For the International Ski Federation FIS, a world record can only be jumped in competition. In addition, the ramp is not homologated in Iceland and the material could not be checked on site by an FIS inspector.

The world record remains in the name of Austrian Stefan Kraft (253.5 meters). Kobayashi is one stunt richer.
