Yet another challenge for the Belgian volleyball brain. Vital Heynen (54) chooses to exchange the German women’s national team for the Chinese men. He must guide the number 31 in the world to a higher level.

Vital Heynen is no stranger to the job of national coach.

The Belgian top coach – who made his name at Maaseik – previously managed the Red Dragons and the German and Polish men. Since 2022, he has set the tactical guidelines for the Germany women’s team, with which he lost in the 1/8th finals at the last European Championship.

Heynen leaves his job as a club coach at Nilüfer in Turkey to dedicate himself full-time to the Chinese national men’s team. A challenging project and one that is far removed from the home country.

China has only attended the Olympic Games twice, including once in Beijing as host country. In addition, it never finished a World Cup higher than 9th place.

Vital Heynen must change that in the future. Paris will no longer reach number 31 in the world, at the world championships and the Asian championships the country, led by the Belgian, wants to show that it is a superpower in the making. Heynen signed for at least 3 years.
