KRC Genk steals Eddy Vanhemel from OH Leuven. In Limburg he will work as head of football and coach development.

KRC Genk announced the arrival of Eddy Vanhemel on its website. He is no stranger to the club, Vanhemel was previously active there as a superstructure coordinator and trainer of the Genk U17.

‘Eddy Vanhemel returns to his roots. From next season, the former senior coordinator and trainer of the Genk U17 will hold the position of Head of Football and Coach Development at the Jos Vaessen Talent Academy. In this position he will form an important bridge between the Genk academy and the first team,” the club said.

‘In recent years, Vanhemel has been employed by, among others, SK Lommel and OH Leuven, where he was even interim coach of the first team after the dismissal of Marc Brys. In his new position he will form a tandem with Technical Director of the Genk academy Koen Daerden.’

‘While Daerden will focus fully on the succession and development of current and future youth players, Vanhemel, as Head of Football and Coach Development, must monitor the football principles of our club. From the academy to the first team.’

Director of Training Roland Breugelmans has already commented on Vanhemel’s appointment. “In concrete terms, we expect Eddy to further develop our football DNA with attractive and attacking football that we stand for as KRC Genk,” he begins.

“In addition, he will better guide the many trainers we have in putting these principles into practice. As a teacher of the UEFA-A course at Voetbal Vlaanderen, he is a reference in the Belgian football world. In short, he is the ideal man to further shape the future of KRC Genk.”
