There was a time when Wilfried Peeters had the strongest team. That was the case when he was still a rider himself and his leader Johan Museeuw won the big victories. That was also the case when he was behind the wheel of the support car and steered his riders to victory in the Flemish spring classics. Whether they were called Boonen, Terpstra or Asgreen. And now Peeters is in the corner where the blows are falling. Winning in the classics has become an exception. “The riders did not perform at a high level,” Peeters admits. But maybe it will happen today, with Tim Merlier in the Scheldeprijs.
