The end of an era? In private, Jan Vertonghen (36) has already made his decision according to ‘La Dernière Heure’: after the upcoming European Football Championship in Germany he will retire as a Red Devil. The defender is the Belgian record international with 154 caps.

In our interview with Jan Vertonghen on Saturday, the Anderlecht player said that he will only make a decision regarding his international retirement after the European Championship. And that his love for the Devils is simply great. Vertonghen: “My time with the national team is getting shorter, but a large part of my football heart lies with the Red Devils. First those play-offs with Anderlecht. In a healthy way, I find it very exciting.”

Vertonghen will normally have his permanent place in the center of defense in Tedesco’s team at the European Championship. He is currently in discussions with Anderlecht about a contract extension. That agreement expires this season. It is expected that Vertonghen will add another year at the Lotto Park.
