Eleven people have been injured in an incident involving a plane at Dakar airport in Senegal. Things immediately went wrong for the Boeing 737 upon takeoff. “It’s going to explode,” a coincidental witness shouted several times.

The Transair aircraft ended up next to the runway and partly caught fire. Images taken after the extinguishing work show a gaping hole in the left engine.

All occupants were evacuated. In addition to two pilots and four crew members, there were also 78 passengers on board. Eleven people were injured, four of them in serious condition.

The aircraft had left for Bamako (Mali) on behalf of the Senegalese company Air Senegal. The airport is now temporarily closed.
