Wouter Vrancken is no longer the trainer of Racing Genk. He leaves the club immediately and will therefore not play the three remaining matches in the Champions’ Play-offs. Tomorrow Vrancken – who has a verbal agreement with KAA Gent – would say goodbye to the playing group. This has been confirmed to our editors.

Wouter Vrancken has been the trainer of KRC Genk since July 2022. Last year he narrowly missed the title with the Limburgers, but this year there were more ups and downs.

Yet Vrancken could suddenly hope for the title again after a good start in the Champions’ Play-offs. That dream was shattered by the double defeat against Club Brugge.

In recent days, T1 has been increasingly linked to KAA Gent. He has now reached a verbal agreement with the East Flemish team to start working there from next season.

Should Genk finish fourth in the play-offs, which is the position the team is in now, Vrancken would have to lead the team against his future employer in the battle for the last European ticket. A scenario that both parties have already avoided.

Tomorrow Vrancken would say goodbye to the club and players and will close the door behind him in Genk after two years. Who will be responsible for the last three matches remains a question mark for the time being.
