Nicky Hayen made a strong impression as the new head coach of Club Brugge. He is well on his way to winning the title and can also win the Conference League.
When Club Brugge dismissed Ronny Deila as coach after the final day of the regular competition of the Jupiler Pro League, no one could have dreamed where Club Brugge would be at this moment. Nicky Hayen still has a chance to win the title and the Conference League.
Vera Duchateau, the wife of Nicky Hayen, tells Het Nieuwsblad that she has no idea what magical power her husband has unleashed on the team.
“I think it’s really crazy and I’ve been speechless in recent weeks. All I know is that he is busy with his job day and night. I used to think: being a trainer, okay, that means spending two hours on the field with those men and the rest of the day off. Ehm, that’s a bit different,” he says.
Not twice?
At the end of 2019, Hayen became interim coach at STVV, but he was not allowed to stay on as T1 afterwards. “A choice by the Japanese at STVV. However, I thought Nicky was completely ready,” Duchateau continues.
And she now also has that feeling at Club Brugge. “Once again I say ‘yes’ when you ask if I think he is ready for the job. He throws himself so hard. He does that for every football challenge. I know there are no discussions going on for next season yet. There is no time for that given the busy sporting agenda.”
