In ‘normal’ circumstances, Thibau Nys would be an absolute world star in Belgium these days. He is still only 21, has already won beautiful crosses and recently also a stage in the Tour de Romandie. Yet that is not entirely the case.

Thibau Nys – son of Sven Nys, the other former world champion in cyclo-cross – has already shown many beautiful things. His stage victory in the Tour de Romandie is a sign that he can also do it on the road at the highest level.

And he already showed many beautiful things in the cross. Yet Nys is currently somewhat in the shadow of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert, two other riders who have made world fame in recent years.

“Yes, sometimes it sucks to race in the same generation as Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel. I understand where that question comes from,” said Thibau Nys about the current strong generation of cyclists. Yet he also sees positive things.
