The majority of offenders are pedestrians. It concerns 16 track runners, 8 of whom are minors. 2 offenders drove their cars over the tracks and one person was caught ignoring the red lights with the electric scooter. He was under the influence of cannabis. The police also caught 3 drivers driving past while calling. They will receive a fine in the mail.

“Many people dare to cross the tracks when they are not actually allowed to do so, even though it is life-threatening. It sounds unimaginable, but this is a daily occurrence. We are no longer shocked by the high number. That is why it is so important that We continue to monitor,” says police spokesperson in Dilbeek Sofie Schuddinck.

All 19 offenders must appear before the Halse police court. They risk a driving ban for up to 5 years and a fine of up to 4,000 euros. Offenders who cross the tracks on foot, but have a driver’s license, also risk a driving ban. “That’s because they have committed a serious traffic violation,” Schuddinck explains. The police say they will carry out similar actions in the future.
