“Actually, all that food wasn’t the hardest part”: duo from Schoten completes road trip to all McDonald’s restaurants in Belgium | Shots

It has happened! In just six days, Dieter Lenaers (30) and Stefan Van Rompaey (31) managed to visit all 111 McDonald’s restaurants in our country and order something from them. The Schoten duo arrived at the last stop near their home port on Wednesday evening. “We are shocked that we still haven’t tired of the hamburgers,” the comrades laugh at the end of their ‘McRoad trip’.
Dieter and Stefan met each other through teacher training. The two comrades from Schoten soon started working out together along the Bredabaan in Merksem on the border with Schoten. Each session ended with a stop at the adjacent… McDonald’s. And so their love for the hamburger chain was sparked even more.

The passion was so great that last year they traveled together to the birthplace of McDonald’s. And now they wanted to take on an insane challenge: visit all 111 hamburger restaurants in Belgium in six days. The mission of that McRoad trip? Order something at any branch. Everyone could follow that adventure via social media. The gentlemen also depicted our country.
The tour started last Thursday evening in Wijnegem – Shop Eat Enjoy. The honor for the very last stop went to their local restaurant on the border of Merksem with Schoten. The duo arrived there on Wednesday evening around 5:30 p.m. They ended in style with a Big Mac Menu. “All that food wasn’t actually the hardest part. We were able to spread it out well and also gave away a lot. On the penultimate day we discovered that we could even just order a sauce.”

“We drove a total of 2,500 kilometers. When it rains very hard and you drive on long straight stretches, it was a bit boring. Then we just sang in the car. It was also quite tiring to arrive at the hotel late at night and still have to assemble, knowing that you have to get up early the next day. The days were so full. Our record was 26 McDonald’s restaurants in one day.”
Recovered
The road trip cost more than 500 euros in orders from McDonald’s alone. “Have we gained much? We have the feeling not. We often had to walk because we could only park for ten minutes or because we were pressed for time. Our challenge was to do this in six days and we succeeded,” Dieter and Stefan beam.
