“Normally I don’t respond to Facebook comments, especially not to internet heroes, but circumstances force me to do so. The young woman who was run over here is my sister, Anke Sneyers,” writes Thomas Sneyers. Thomas and Anke’s family are real racing enthusiasts, and have been going to all kinds of places for years to watch the riders pass by.

That was also the case now. “Anke stood – together with mother – neatly away from the course, on the side verge. So she couldn’t have caused that fall. It involved another spectator, so the riders had to swerve and Anke eventually fell as well.”

Serious head injury

The public prosecutor’s office is currently investigating the facts and is also speaking to witnesses, including the ambulance officers behind the platoon. Thomas especially criticizes the fact that the reactions on social media are so fierce: “How all these people dare to pass judgment here, without having seen anything decent, and even respond that they have “no pity” makes me – sorry for the word – sick to my stomach,” he continues.

Anke is currently still in the hospital for care. “But considering the circumstances, she is doing well. She has a serious head injury with multiple stitches and a broken collarbone. It could have been a lot worse. Of course, the emotional impact on her, my parents and the friends who were present cannot be underestimated,” Thomas concludes.
