Two cyclists hit by car on Prins Boudewijnlaan: woman (30) in mortal danger (Kontich)


Two cyclists were hit by a passenger car on the Prins Boudewijnlaan in Kontich on Monday afternoon. A 30-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition. A traffic expert is investigating the cause of the incident.

The accident happened around 2.30 pm, near Villermontstraat. “It concerns a collision between a passenger car and two cyclists,” says Jessica Voet, spokeswoman for the Hekla police zone. “The car drove towards Kontich, at the intersection it intercepted two cyclists crossing the Prins Boudewijnlaan.”

Three ambulances and a mosquito arrived on the scene. A cyclist, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in critical condition. She is in mortal danger. The other suffered minor injuries and has meanwhile been allowed to leave the hospital,” said Voet. The driver was also taken to hospital in shock.

As a result of the incident, the Prins Boudewijnlaan between Boerenlegerstraat and Villermontstraat has been closed. According to our information, the intersection has recently been redeveloped with bicycle-friendly traffic lights. A traffic expert is on site to determine the cause of the incident.
