Gennez believes that the government deficit should be reduced by saving more instead of introducing new taxes. “I think the middle class, the people who work, already pay enough taxes. There is still room to make cuts here and there,” Gennez begins. She points out possible savings. “We are still investing in fossil fuels and I don’t think we should do that. “Continuing to support Ukraine is important”
Gennez agrees to provide stronger military and financial support to Ukraine in the war with Russia. “We decided to supply F-16s, be part of the coalition and supply ammunition. On a humanitarian basis, we have decided to contribute to the reconstruction. But there are things we should not do, like sending troops to Ukraine,” Gennez said. According to Macron, we should not rule out that option. “In any case, I think it is important that we support Ukraine, because only when Ukraine is safe will Europe and Belgium be safe too. But I also think that we have to be careful in geopolitically uncertain times and that it would be unwise for Europe and NATO to get drawn into a war with Russia.”
