Antwerp Airport is once again losing its connection with London City Airport. Luxair will stop the connection at the end of this month. According to Antwerp Airport, the connection is being stopped due to a shortage of cockpit and cabin crew, but there may be more to it.

After Luxair relaunched the historically popular Antwerp-London City route in early 2023, the company will cancel all flights later this month. The last flight will be operated on May 31 and for the time being it does not look like the route will return any time soon.

According to Antwerp Airport, Luxair is canceling the connection because it is struggling with a shortage of cockpit and cabin crew. There may be some truth in this, but a more likely story is that the connection was not extremely profitable for the company and it can use its capacity more profitably on other destinations and routes.

This summer, the company started flying between Antwerp and London City 4 to 6 times a week, depending on the period. Summer is traditionally a weaker period for this business route, so it is not surprising that the frequency decreases. From the second half of September, the intention was to increase the frequency again to 6 flights per week, but all flights have now been removed from the reservation system. This makes it clear that the route will disappear for a longer period and it is even questionable whether Luxair will ever return to Antwerp.
