Two of the three suspects in the case surrounding a nighttime explosion in a residential area in Bruges will remain in prison for a month longer. The third suspect will not appear for another two weeks.

The Bruges social housing estate Blauwe Poort was startled by a loud bang on Wednesday morning, February 28. A fireworks bomb was purposefully thrown at the facade of one of the houses around 3 a.m. and exploded. The damage was extensive: two homes were seriously damaged. The police, the West Flemish public prosecutor’s office and DOVO arrived on the scene and the incident was immediately investigated.

It was unclear for a long time who was behind the attack, until that changed in early April. The Federal Judicial Police of West Flanders spotted the three suspects and therefore set up an operation in Brussels. The Federal Judicial Police worked together with PZ Brugge, PZ Marlow and PZ Zuid and was able to arrest the three Brussels youths on Friday morning.

Bruges council chamber

Two of the three suspects appeared before the council chamber for a second time on Tuesday morning. He decided to extend the arrest of the Brussels residents by a month. The third suspect will not appear again for two weeks. The three claim to have nothing to do with the facts. (CCA)
