On Thursday, a 31-year-old man from Kosovo died in a work accident in Kortrijk. The man was busy with demolition work at the old industrial site of Belgian Industrial Carpets on Walle in Kortrijk. This will be renovated in the coming years into the green Walle Business Campus. “A tragic accident,” says Gunther Biddelo of project developer Futurn, client of the project.

“We sympathize with the victim and his young family. What exactly went wrong is now part of the investigation by the police and the judiciary. An investigation in which everyone of course fully cooperates,” says Biddelo. “Works will be halted until further notice.”

On Thursday morning around 10.15 am, the emergency services received an emergency call after a worker fell from a height of about 15 metres. The man was demolishing a roof at the back of the site. What exactly happened is now being investigated by the labor prosecutor.

The works are part of the renovation of an old industrial site in the Walle district of Kortrijk where the Belgian Industrial Carpets used to be active. The industrial complex will be transformed by the Kortrijk project developer Futurn into a green business park where there will mainly be warehouses, studios and showrooms, supplemented with offices. Work on the old industrial site started last year and is expected to end in 2025.
