Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will definitely not be part of the Belgian selection during the European Football Championship in Germany in June. “Everything has already been said on this subject. I don’t want to play ping pong,” said national coach Domenico Tedesco in conversation with German media.
Courtois has had cold relations with Tedesco since June last year. The 31-year-old Real Madrid goalkeeper was angry because he was not chosen as captain of the Belgians after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury. Romelu Lukaku wore the captain’s armband against Austria.

In December, Courtois, who has only just recovered after a long period of injury, announced that he would not be available for the European Championship. “We concentrate on players who are in good shape,” Tedesco said on Tuesday.
The Italian/German trainer is associated with a move to AC Milan, where he should succeed Stefano Pioli. According to Tedesco, that won’t happen. “I have extended my contract and in doing so I have sent a clear signal to everyone: the clubs, the players and the association.”
