Due to a technical problem with part of the baggage system at Zaventem airport, several flights departed without suitcases on Tuesday morning. This also led to some delays in the early morning. Brussels Airport hopes that the problem will be resolved quickly.
“It concerns an IT problem with part of our baggage system,” says Ihsane Chioua Lekhli, spokesperson for Brussels Airport. “As a result, we cannot process all the suitcases and some flights are forced to depart without luggage. It is not yet clear how many flights are involved.”
The problems started early on Tuesday morning. “As a result, several planes departed with some delay because it was initially decided to wait until the problem would be resolved,” said Chioua Lekhli. “At the moment (10.30 am, ed.) the problem has not yet been resolved, but we obviously hope that there will be white smoke soon.”
Passengers flying to their destination without luggage must file a claim with their airline after arrival. The suitcases left behind will be sent later.
