A roof fire is currently raging on Anspachlaan in the center of Brussels. This concerns the former administrative center of the city of Brussels, the Muntcentrum, which is being completely renovated.

The fire brigade is on site and has the situation under control, it said. “It concerns a fire in the old administrative center of Brussels,” spokesman Walter Derieuw said. “An old ventilation group has caught fire. The firefighting works are in progress. We are trying to prevent the spread to the roof. A 64-meter ladder is used for this. Both workers and crane operator are safe.”

Until the end of 2022, the building housed the administrative services of the city of Brussels and the headquarters of Bpost. The services of the city of Brussels moved to the brand new Brucity building, a few hundred meters away, and Bpost moved to the other side of the street. The building has since been transformed into a multifunctional building with offices, catering establishments, hotels and apartments.
