Top 5 most popular electric cars in Belgium (Q1 2024)

--

Although Belgians will still most often buy a petrol car in 2024, the share of electric cars continues to grow. In fact, EVs now rank second in the market in 2024, with a 23% market share! They are of course helped somewhat by the Flemish premium for electric cars, which has increased registrations of EVs in the north of the country by 150.4% compared to the first quarter of 2023. However, the market is still supported by professionals, where electric models come first with a 31.6% market share. Something that mainly benefits the premium brands, as can be seen from the ranking.

5.BMW i4

In fifth place is not the BMW iX1 SUV or the BMW i5, but the four-door coupe from Germany: the BMW i4. A model with an autonomy of up to 590 km thanks to the 81.1 kWh battery and a 250 kW (340 hp) electric motor on the rear axle in the case of the eDrive40. The model has only just been facelifted, but we don’t have any prices for that new version yet. Production of the updated BMW i4 will start in July 2024.

4. Audi Q4 e-tron

Remarkably, there are two German models that are at the bottom of this top 5. Above the four-door coupe from Munich, the Audi Q4 e-tron finishes in fourth place, with a starting price of 57,269.99 euros. In its version with the most endurance, the Q4 e-tron has a maximum autonomy of 544 km. The electric SUV also exists as a Sportback with a sloping roofline. It is slightly less practical and also slightly more expensive, but it does have a slightly longer driving range of 562 km.

3.Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is one of the two models of the American brand that end up on the podium of the most popular electric cars in Belgium. The electric sedan received a facelift for 2024 and is therefore more attractive than ever on paper, especially with a price of 49,970 euros for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD, which has a range of 629 km.

2. Volvo EX40 (formerly XC40 Recharge)

In the first quarter of 2024, the Volvo EX40, previously known as the XC40 Recharge, will take second place among the most popular EVs in Belgium. A position that he probably owes to his Belgian roots (the model is built in Ghent), but also to his performance. The version of the Volvo EX40 with the longest driving range has an autonomy of no less than 575 km! In terms of price, the Volvo EX40 starts at 51,100 euros.

1. Tesla Model Y

Although it is positioned below the Model S and Model X, the Tesla Model Y is by far the most important model for the American manufacturer. And with good reason, because this Tesla SUV is not only popular in Belgium, but also worldwide! To further increase its dominance, the Tesla Model Y received a Long Range RWD version with 600 km of autonomy at the beginning of 2024. In terms of price, the Tesla Model Y starts at 45,970 euros in Belgium at the time of writing.
