The facts took place on July 24, 2023 on the corner of Platformstraat and Langestraat. That afternoon, a drug addicted man from Nieuwpoort was waiting for a dealer in the Ostend entertainment district. Around 3:45 p.m., a young man in a striking blue track jacket showed up at the agreed location.
According to the victim, a discussion then broke out because they could not agree on payment. “There were shouts and rants and at one point the suspect pulled out a serrated knife and stabbed the victim,” says the investigation report from the Ostend police zone. The stabbing left the man in his forties in danger for a while. The Bruges department of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office therefore requested an investigating judge for attempted manslaughter.

After the stabbing, the suspect immediately ran away. The young man was last seen by the surveillance cameras at the intersection of Jozef II Street and Kapellestraat. His training jacket was later found in the Leopold Park. Shortly after the facts, a 57-year-old man was arrested, but he was quickly released.
The suspect is eighteen to twenty years old and approximately 1.70 to 1.80 tall. The slim man has brown, curly hair that becomes lighter at the ends. At the time of the incident he was wearing a striking light blue track jacket with black pieces, black track pants and white sneakers with blue laces. It may be a Dutch person.
