Antwerp

With the play ‘Wiggle Beds’, the Multatulitheater presents 6 different bed stories. 6 scenes about the adventures of 6 couples between the sheets, each with its own climax.

Vice-chairman Jan Ryngaert does not reveal whether it will be a happy ending. “This comedy contains six separate scenes with one bed and one common theme: sex,” he explains. Before the break, a newly married couple, a father and a nun and mom and dad dive under the sheets. After the interruption, 2 young people, a whore with a customer and grandpa and grandma who also want to experience it with a blue pill. They are 6 stories that are separate from each other. The naughty comedy was written by Bart Spaey and directed by René De Cort. The dialogues of Wriemelstromen are truly Antwerp, just like all other pieces by Multatuli. That is the rule of the theater in the Parish of Misery.

New management

Multatuli has had a new board since last year. Not much will change, because the company continues to focus on comedies by good authors. “But every now and then we also want to perform a more experimental piece, with some black humor,” assures the vice-chairman. “But the spectators must always go home with a good feeling. The new directors also want to attract some young blood, which is not so evident in the theater world.

Parking policy

Theater Multatuli regularly attracts full houses, but has seen the number of spectators and subscribers decline since the corona period. But people are also dropping out due to the parking policy in the city of Antwerp. “We have already brought the performances forward by half an hour, so that people who want to have a drink after the play can also catch the bus and tram,” Jan Ryngaert explains. “For people who come to Antwerp by car, the evening out also becomes a lot more expensive if they have to park in a paid parking lot.” People who have difficulty walking and with a small income therefore sometimes miss out on a cultural evening.

There are 16 performances by Wriemelstromen, you can still watch until Saturday 8 June
