UpdateOur country will send three Belgian deminers from DOVO to France this summer. Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder (PS) reported this on social media. They will be responsible for safety during the Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11. There will also be dogs that can detect explosives.

“The French government has asked Belgium to contribute to the protection and security of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,” Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defense, told the French-language news site RTL. “This is possible in the context of the Operation Plan 2024. Belgium will provide support in the field of detecting and clearing explosive ammunition. It is known that the Belgian army has this expertise and is regularly called upon to carry out international interventions.”

Security

“It is normal to call for reinforcements during global sporting events. On the other hand, the extent of security is unprecedented,” explains Pierre-Henry Druesne, Deputy National Coordinator for Security of the Games.

MR chairman Georges-Louis Bouchez is not happy with the decision. “Our soldiers are not allowed to protect us on the streets of Brussels, but they are allowed to patrol Paris. The Minister of Defense laughs at people. Very,” he responds on social media.

However, he is immediately reprimanded by Minister Dedonder, who calls his message “disinformation”. “We are sending three deminers from DOVO. There are no soldiers on the streets,” she says.
