Wim De Decker is no longer trainer of SK Beveren. The 41-year-old trainer is paying the price for the disappointing results for the ambitious Waaslanders. Assistant coaches Eric Hellemons and Flavien Le Postollec will take over until the end of the season.

Expectations at SK Beveren were high at the start of the season. After an excellent first season under the leadership of coach Wim De Decker, where the club was on the verge of promotion, this season had to be a success. Only that didn’t go as planned at all. After the club saw several strong players leave last summer, Beveren started the new season in a dramatic manner. After a painful 6 out of 24, it was already red on the Freethiel for a while. Ultimately, De Decker got his team on track and Beveren was on the edge of the top six at the winter break.

Volatility is the trump card

After the winter break, there was volatility again. The punishment on the field of Club Liège (5-1) ultimately became the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. With a provisional eighth place in the Challenger Pro League, five points shy of the Promotion Play-offs, the goal was not achieved.

“The club makes this decision after disappointing results and failure to achieve the set goals. We would like to thank Wim for his efforts and energy recently. We wish him all the best, both sportingly and personally,” said a press release from the club. No one else within the club wishes to comment.

Assistant coaches Eric Hellemons and Flavien Le Postollec will take over the sporting tasks for the time being, together with physical trainer Frederik Bracke, video analyst Johan Verelst and goalkeeper coach Kenny Steppe.
