Britain’s King Charles (75) resumed his official activities on Tuesday, after a three-month absence since he was diagnosed with cancer. It was no coincidence that the 75-year-old monarch chose the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Center in London, a cancer treatment center, for his first working visit.

Charles and Queen Camilla met patients battling cancer and their families at the center. The royal couple also received a short tour. With the visit, the king wanted to emphasize the importance of detecting cancer at an early stage, which increases the chance of successful treatment.

Afterwards, King Charles and Queen Camilla received flowers from a group of children who were waiting for them outside the exit. Images showed Charles waving cheerfully and smiling at those present.

Charles’ cancer treatment continues unabated. According to Buckingham Palace, Charles’ doctors are “very pleased with the progress made to date and remain optimistic that his recovery will continue.” In the meantime, the 75-year-old monarch continues his public activities, but these are “carefully weighed” in close consultation with his doctors. In June, Charles and Camilla will receive the Japanese Emperor and Empress for a state visit.

Nine months after his coronation in May 2023, Buckingham Palace announced in early February that Charles III was suffering from cancer, discovered following prostate surgery in January. The nature and stage of the disease were never specified. Charles then suspended his official activities, but continued to work privately.
