Britney is now really free: singer reaches settlement with father after long legal battle

American singer Britney Spears has reached a settlement with her father Jamie. This puts an end to years of legal battle for her right to self-determination.

“Britney finally has the freedom she longed for.” Spears’ lawyer said this in a press release after the former pop star reached a settlement with her father, Jamie Spears.

He was appointed by a court in 2008 as guardian for his daughter. This meant, among other things, that he gained control over her finances and her personal life. That decision was made after the singer suffered emotional breakdowns and mental problems.

However, the singer contested that guardianship. According to her, there was abuse and excessive control over everything she did.
